Examination of the relationship between cyberloafing and organizational commitment: A research in the mining sector

Due to the intensive use of information technologies depending on the development of technology, it has become much easier to coordinate many operations in organizations and to exchange information between them. As a result of the widespread use of the internet in today's conditions, this situation causes many negative situations in organizations. One of these negative behaviors is "Cyberloafing Behaviors" which is one of the non-productive behaviors. Due to the widespread use of technological infrastructure in the world, it has become inevitable to experience quality, efficiency and performance increases in workplaces. Therefore, human resource is one of the factors that companies attach great importance to. Therefore, companies are looking for ways to retain their potential human resources. In particular, they have to ensure the organizational commitment of the employees in order not to lose their qualified human resources. In this study, the effect of organizational commitment on cyberloafing behaviors will be examined in the mining sector. Within the scope of the research, a survey was conducted on 340 employees working in the mining sector in Muğla. In the analysis of the obtained data, reliability analysis, factor analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used. According to the results of the analysis, significant relationships were found between organizational commitment, cyberloafing and their sub-dimensions and demographic characteristics. While significant relationship wasn't found between organizational commitment and cyberloafing, it was determined that there was a significant relationship between cyberloafing, significant cyberloafing and normative commitment, and significant cyberloafing and continuance commitment.
