Abstract (EN)
The in vivo antitumoural effect of S. hortensis L. ethanol extract on Swiss albino mice induced with Ehrlich ascites tumour (EAT) was determined for the first time. In this study 60 Swiss albino mice were used which body weights were 28-30 g and ages are 8-10 weeks. 6 groups were formed with all animals randomly (n=10) and 1x106 EAC cells suspended with 0.1 ml PBS were injected intraperitoneally to all groups except from control groups. S. hortensis ethanol extracts were given to experimental groups with 150-200-250 mg/kg/gün dosage per orally. The third day after tumor inoculation, extract was started to administration and it was limited only 10 days. At the same time the tap water was given to control groups. The effects of ethanol extract of S. hortensis on tumour growth were evaluated with food and water consumption, weight gain and also histopathologic parameters. The administration of S. hortensis with 150 mg/kg/day dosage was reduced tumour burden arose from EAT. Histopathologic evaluations and reduced body weights in this group showed suppressed effects of S. hortensis on tumour cells.Key Words: EAT, Swiss albino, Satureja hortensis
