Abstract (EN)

This thesis is written within the framework of Molla Arab el-Antâkî's work titled es- Sedâd fî fazli'l-cihâd, who passed away in 1531. The period in which the author lived and the work was written coincides with a time when the Ottomans were struggling with various enemies both in Europe and the East and were in a difficult situation. Among these enemies, the Safavids posed the greatest threat to the Ottomans. The Safavid problem would be the first issue that Yavuz Sultan Selim focused on after consolidating his throne. The author of the work, Molla Arab, was in the entourage of Bayezid II and personally participated in the campaigns. He gained fame in the region with his sermons against the Safavids in the vicinity of Aleppo. The incident that marked a turning point in the author's life was when an embassy sent by the Safavids to the Mamluks heard Molla Arab's sermons against the Safavids and plotted an assassination against him. After this unsuccessful assassination attempt, Molla Arab sought refuge in Ottoman lands and wrote his work es-Sedâd fî fazli'l-cihâd to encourage Yavuz Sultan Selim to jihad against the Safavids. Molla Arab, who served as an army preacher and was subjected to an assassination attempt due to his sermons against the Safavids, and who then encouraged Yavuz Sultan Selim to jihad, presents a portrait of a scholar who is unconventional in this respect.
