The impact of the defense and aerospace industry on the Turkish economy

In order to ensure its survival, to prevent and deter the enemy from attacking them, countries have turned to intensive production of weapons with the development of technology, and if possible, they have established their own national defense industries. The defense industries, which emerged more systematically from the beginning of the 20th century, started to increase their share in the industrial sector of the countries and started to become the focus of attention of academics in terms of their economic effects. First of all, very important studies have been carried out on the economic effects of defense expenditures, and different approaches have been put forward in the opposite direction of each other. The development of the defense and aerospace industry in Turkey, which has recently become the focal point of academics, also emerges as an area worth examining. The Turkish Defense and Aviation Industry, which has historically marked periods of significant progress, has made significant progress especially in the last 20-25 years. In this thesis study, the impact of the Turkish Defense and Aviation Industry on the economy was examined. First of all, the concept of defense needs and the economic effects of defense expenditures, the course of defense expenditures in the World and in Turkey were focused on, then the characteristics of the Defense and Aerospace Industry and ultimately the direct economic effects of the Turkish Defense and Aerospace Industry (on employment and growth) were revealed with the available official data.
