In this study, it was investigated that the antiradical, antimicrobial and anticancer properties with phytochemical compounds of the water, ethanol, methanol and acetone extracts of Scorzonera semicana, which grown in Elazig around and consumed as vegetables. The antiradical properties of the extracts were investigated via DPPH, ABTS, OH radical scavenging activities, their antibacterial properties were determined against several microorganisms, which are caused infection, such as Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and Candida albicans yeast. Anticancer properties of these plants were deterimined by MTT assay on the MCF-7 (human breast cancer), HCT-116 (human colon cancer) and LNCaP (human prostate cancer) cells under in vitro conditions. In addition, it was assayed vitamins, sterols, flavonoids, phenolic acids and fatty acids contents of this plant. According to study results, it was determined that S. semicana water and methanol extracts for scavenging of ABTS radical; S. semicana water, ethanol and methanol extracts for scavenging of OH radical showed higher activity than standard antioxidant BHT. It was observed that total flavonoid, total proanthocyanidin and total phenolic contents were found to be highest in S. semicana methanol extract. It was found that all extracts of S. semicana had higher antimicrobial activity than standard antibiotics against L. monocytogenes. It was determined that this plant showed very effective anticancer activity increasing dose-dependently on LNCaP, MCF-7, HCT-116 cancer cell lines (p<0.05; p<0.001).
