Özet (EN)

In classical Turkish literature prose as well as poetry tradition has progressedover centuries. Story writing holds an important place in the progression of at proseworks. Traditionally a lot of anthologies of complete works are compiled and prosestories are written by adopting various techniques. The work studied in thisdissertation was translated from Persian into Turkish in 16th century by SeyyidAhmet bin Hasan Bâlû with the pseudonym ?Sıdkû?. The story written with theframing technique covers a slice of time of nine days. Everyday a section opens upand two stories are told. By giving the stories individual titles the writer offers thereader a chance to chose from the compilation. There are already five manuscripts, four in the libraries in Turkey and one inthe Vatican. One of the objectives of this study is to produce with a comparison ofthe two existing manuscripts. The edition printed in Tahran in 1965 is well-knownand widely read today. Sıdkû is faithful to the original texts in translating the storiesfrom Persian to Turkish but has failed to translate the two stories in the last chapter. In the work the titles are such as justice, trustworthiness, generousity, bravery, dignity etc. They are used so that the reader could present a model and influencepeople with such virtues.Sıdkû declares his rationale in forming this work as a contribution tohumanity. The writer tries to present ideal characters in the stories, in the idea offorming a moral education for readers. However, he does not tend to use a boring, didactic language in them. Instead with the ideal adjectives he picks up, he creates anatural ground to guide the reader to the modelled virtues. The writer uses a commonstructure in all his stories and he punishes the villain while rewarding the good. Fromtime to time he uses religious references as well as well-known verses to enrich thestories in order to help increase the influential impact on the reader. His charactersare ordinary people in the street from various occupations. The way these stories areorganised makes one think that the work is also a diplomacy guide book foradministrators in power.Hikâye-i Ucûbe ve Mahcûbe, holds a considerable place in story tellingtradition of classical Turkish literature.
