Abstract (EN)

Although nothing can be done against the destructive effects of natural disasters, there is a need for approaches that will contribute to increasing the resilience of cities in order to reduce the destructive effects of disasters. Urban open and green spaces play an important role in meeting the needs of people such as sheltering and gathering during and after disasters. This thesis study aims to evaluate the temporary disaster shelter areas determined by AFAD (Emergency and Disaster Situation) for Antalya in the context of flood and earthquake in the light of certain criteria, as well as to examine the role of urban open and green areas, which are important in the preparation and mitigation of natural disasters, and to examine the current situation of temporary shelter areas and to propose an earthquake park for suitable ones. Among the natural disasters, floods and earthquakes were chosen because floods are very common in Antalya due to excessive rainfall and impermeable surfaces. For this purpose, the quality and quantity of open and green areas that can serve the public in case of an earthquake will be analysed for five central districts in Antalya, where the population and urban texture are dense, and then the adequacy and accessibility of the population living in these five central districts will be examined. With rapid urbanisation, the necessity for effective management of temporary disaster shelter areas has increased even more. In the light of all these analyses and data, this thesis does not aim to make recommendations on urban open and green areas that the people of Antalya can easily access and use in the event of a possible Antalya earthquake or flood disaster.
