Abstract (EN)

Harīrī's Maqāmāt occupies a prominent place in Arabic literary tradition. Composed by Abū Muḥammad al-Qāsim b. ʿAlī al-Baṣrī al-Ḥarīrī (d. 516 AH / 1122 CE), the work attracted the attention of scholars and linguists, leading to many commentaries. Among the most significant is al-Nukat wa-l-Ishārāt fī Sharḥ al-Maqāmāt, authored by Salāma b. ʿAbd al-Bāqī al-Anbārī (d. 590 AH / 1194 CE), a distinguished blind scholar born in al-Anbār (Iraq) who later migrated to Egypt. There, he pursued advanced studies and taught in scholarly circles, gaining a reputation for his deep knowledge of language and literature. Living close in time to Harīrī, al-Anbārī approached the Maqāmāt from a linguistic perspective, clarifying obscure words through extensive use of Arabic poetry, Qurʾānic verses, and Prophetic ḥadīths. His commentary also includes excerpts from lost sources, rare poetic lines, and linguistic insights, making it a valuable reference for Arabic philology and literary history. This study comprises two main chapters. The first introduces al-Anbārī's life, his work, and the methodological and stylistic features of his commentary. The second presents a critical edition of the first eight maqāmas based on scholarly textual comparison. The study adopts descriptive and analytical approaches, utilizing various manuscript copies to establish a reliable text.
