Abstract (EN)

The Seljuks, one of the most important representatives of the Turkish Islamic states, were one of the most powerful states of their period and ruled over a wide geography. This powerful state witnessed many prince rebellions due to the old Turkish state tradition and the internal dynamics of the state. Although the prince rebellions occurred at different times in different geographies, it is seen that the basis of all of them is the same. This study titled "Prince Revolts in the Seljuk States" comprehensively examines the background, causes, development process and results of the prince rebellions in the Seljuks. In the background of the mentioned prince rebellions, it is seen that the concepts of "kut" and "ülüg-ülüş" in the axis of the Turkish understanding of sovereignty and the divine foundations of this understanding. In this context, the definition of princedom, the institution of princedom, the responsibilities of princes and the education received by princes are also explained in detail. These rebellions, which dragged the state into a process of destruction, also had some administrative, economic and socio-cultural consequences. As a matter of fact, as a result of the rebellions, central authority was disrupted and the balance of power shifted due to the lack of political unity. The wars caused by the rebellions destroyed cities, and as a result of this destruction, people suffered from hunger and poverty. Faced with the black market due to economic depression, people were forced to leave the cities where they were born and raised. In this context, the aim of this thesis is to Show how the tradition adopted in the Seljuks regarding the sharing of central power naturally led to a struggle for power among the princes, how this struggle, on the one hand, provided a kind of rehearsal for the new generation of rulers who would take over the administration of the state, on the other hand, led to negative consequences such as the weakening of authority and the impoverishment of the people and ultimately to explain that this method was a natural way of changing power in those times.
