Ani city in Seljuk times (1064-1200)

Because of its strategic location Ani city and castle, located between North-West Iran and South Kafqasia and East Anatolian region. Ani castle located on a high mountain, had a great importance for protecting historical way, which penetrates through south Kafqasia and North-West Iran region to North-East Anatolia. Having the key position for entering Anatolia in Byzantium age, Ani was the first place conquered by the Turks. To see first Seljuk monuments here, it gains importance for Turkish-Islamic history.Even in today times there are many Christian and Muslim monuments an its lands, it is like an amphi theatre. The historical monument which has became for today witness the Byzantium, Roma, Iran, Arab, Georgian, Armenian and Turkish civilizations that lived there.In this work, I?ve tried to give information about; the time when Turks ruled Ani, the politic fight during that times, and as an amphitheatre, I?ve informed about its architecture, their features, and the effects of civilizations on these architectures. There have been many works an Ani, but most of them were about its architecture not about its political history. I?ll inform you mostly about its political history.In this work, I?ve tried to inform you about the importance of Ani for Turkish-Islamic civilization and as a ruin place today, I?ll give some information about Ani?s architectural features and its monuments and the conditions of life on that days.
