Understanding of zât-adjat in Şemsüddi̇n Es-Semerkandi̇

This thesis is based on Maturidi scholar Şemsüddin es-Semerkandî's conception of adjective. Our thesis consists of an introduction and two chapters. In the introduction, the question of adjectives, the life and works of Samarkandî will be mentioned. Then the divine adjectives will be examined briefly. In the first part, the emergence of the adjectives as a problem and the reasons will be examined. Then, the types of adjectives according to sects, parts of adjectives according to Samarkandi and the issue of Halku'l-Qur'an will be discussed here. The adjectives of Mu'tezile, Küllabiyye, Eş'arî and Matüridi will be presented in this section. In the second part, Semerkandî'de zat-adjective conception özellikle will be examined especially on the basis of the work of Semerkandî's es-Sahaifü'l-İlahiyye and his commentary al-Mearif fi Şerhi Sahaifü'l-İlahiyye. Assuming that Samarkandi used Razi's rational method and was influenced by him, Fahreddin Razi will also be discussed.
