The relationship between design and function in ceramic wall tiles

The concept of design has been present in every field with its contributions that benefit the development of humanity by producing solutions to the needs of humanity since ancient times. Ceramic material is the most important functional design material that has existed in the use of humanity from ancient times to the present day. In daily life, traces of design and function concepts can be seen in many fields and disciplines. Today, ceramic material is used in many disciplines ranging from indoor and outdoor surface coating to sanitary ware, from ornaments to art. Tiles exhibit functionality with their aesthetic features as well as their resistance to moisture, durability and hygienic properties. With all these features, they have a wide range of uses in homes, public spaces and commercial areas. This research, which is handled with the concept of design and function, has been examined in the focus of functionality in ceramic wall tiles and designs and has been created with new design applications. Emphasizing the functional aspects of ceramic wall tile designs, this study examines the effect of design and aesthetics on the experience of use. In addition, the study has been examined by identifying examples where many designers and artists have brought a different perspective to ceramic wall tile designs by pushing the boundaries.
