Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the effect of the use of the Singapore Bar Model on the 5th grade students' processes of solving multiples of natural numbers problems and THE opınıons of mathematıcs teachers about the types of errors they make ın thıs process. The study was conducted on a criterion sample consisting of 6 mathematics teachers selected from two public secondary schools in Adana province and 120 5th grade students taught by these teachers. The research was conducted using qualitative research method and a case design approach was adopted. As data collection tools, an evaluation form was used to determine student errors and a semi-structured interview form was used to obtain teacher opinions. The data were evaluated by descriptive analysis, student errors were categorized and teacher opinions were interpreted. The results revealed teachers' different views on teaching algebraic expressions at an early age. It was determined that students had difficulty in understanding abstract concepts and made mistakes in the process of solving the floor problem. The study suggested that the strip model was helpful for students and teachers should use this strategy more. Recommendations include improving teacher training programs, making the mathematics curriculum more flexible, using the strip model more widely, and integrating technology-based learning platforms. This study is important for understanding students' difficulties in solving mathematical problems and improving their solution strategies. The recommendations can contribute to the development of more effective strategies in mathematics education. Keywords: Singapore Bar model method, problem solving, middle school students.
