The investigation of serum ssortilin and adam levels in the relationship between coronary artery disease and severity

Abstract (EN)
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in our country as well as in the world. Atherosclerotic plaque formation which is the main component of lipid is a multifactorial progressive process which constitutes the pathophysiology of CAD. Some new biomarkers are recommended to evaluate this process accompanied by chronic inflammation. This study was designed to investigate the potential prognostic biomarker potential of sSortilin, and ADAM-10 levels which are thought to have a primary role in its formation in the evaluation of clinical course of CAD risk and severity. In order to determine the relationship between these parameters and the severity of the disease, we classified the patients into two groups as single vessel and multi vessel occlusion according to their coronary angiographic findings. 136 patients who were diagnosed with coronary artery disease and underwent angiography at the Clinic Cardiology of Faculty of Medicine in Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University were enrolled in the study. 41 of these patients were single vessel and 95 patients had multiple vessel occlusion. 39 healthy individuals with demographic characteristics similar to subgroups of patients will be the healthy control group of the study. Serum levels of sSortilin and ADAM-10 of the patients and control groups were measured by ELISA. The sSortilin and ADAM-10 levels were found to be higher in the patients than in controls but not statistically significant. Although sSortilin values increased as the severity of the disease increased, it was not statistically significant. The statistically significant positive correlation between sSortilin and ADAM-10 was found in each group, and as the severity of the disease increased, the highest correlation was detected in the multi-vessel occlusion group. In addition, the positive correlation between sSortilin and triglyceride, Apo B and CRP was found in the patient group. This correlation between sSortilin and triglyceride, Apo B and CRP suggests that sortilin may be effective in both increasing plasma lipid levels and in inflammatory response in the atherosclerotic process. We think that sSortilin and ADAM-10 may be used as a biomarker for prediction of CAD risk, and might be added to the already used risk factors as a new risk assessment in the future.
