Effect of anesthesia methods for regainining for daily life activities in cesarean patients

Postpartum period is physically, socially and emotionally a though time for the parents and for the baby to become a family. We tried to put forth how the anesthesia method affects on cesarean patients, as a factor also impressing this period.206 elective cesarean patients in Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital were involved between 01 July 2012 and 01 October 2012 in our study. After demographic data and anesthesia method were noted, EQ-5D health survey and Katz GYA scale is questioned face to face at postoperative 24 hours, and by telephone at postoperative 5th day. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 15.0 for Windows program is used for statistical analysis.The average age of this study is 25.2 ± 3.3. % 35.2 (n: 71) patients had general anesthesia, while % 19.8 ( n: 40) had epidural anesthesia and % 45 (n: 91) had spinal anesthesia. Within all this three methods, EQ-5D health survey pointed that outcome at postoperative 24 hours was best in epidural anesthesia and was worst in general anesthesia (p < 0.05). Katz GYA scale at postoperative 24. hours showed that epidural anesthesia was better from the other methods for regaining daily life activities (p < 0.05). At the 5. postoperative day, both scales showed no difference between anesthesia methods.Our study figured out that the anesthesia method for elective sezarean patents is important for gaining daily life activities, with EQ-5D health survey and Katz GYA scale. Epidural anesthesia had the most effective role among the methods in regaining daily life activities, while general anesthesia brings out prolonged regaining daily life activities ? thus to lose popularity in obstetric anesthesia.
