Abstract (EN)

Side is an East Pamphylian city founded west of the Melas Stream. Side was the most important port city of the Pamphylia Region until Attaleia was founded. The city has always been a point of interest for travelers and researchers, but the first excavations in the city were started in 1947 by Ord. Prof. Dr. Arif Müfid Mansel. In Side's long history of research from the past to the present, 2014 was a turning point. In 2024, the part of the city between the harbor and the theater, which was a Grade I Archaeological Site, was taken under protection as an Urban and Grade III Archaeological Site. Since 2014, excavation, conservation and repair works have been carried out on a total of 134 parcels in the Urban and Grade III Archaeological Site Area, first under the Side Museum Directorate and since 2019 under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Feriştah Soykal Alanyalı. Within the scope of these studies, very important information about the settlement history of Side was reached and many structures were unearthed. Among these structures are many residences. The first dwellings unearthed in Side are the R1 and R2 dwellings unearthed by Arif Müfid Mansel. These dwellings, built in the 2nd-1st centuries BC, were in use until the 7th century AD. In 2024, the dwellings unearthed during the excavations conducted by the Side Museum Directorate in parcels 779-14, 798-1, 785-19 and 785-18 in the 'Side Urban and Grade III Archaeological Site' were evaluated by Fatma Çağım Özcan within the scope of a doctoral thesis. Within the scope of this thesis, during the excavations conducted under the direction of Prof. Dr. Feriştah Alanyalı in the Urban and Grade III Archaeological Site in 2023, three separate dwellings (Dwelling I, Dwelling II and Dwelling III) were unearthed on block 807, parcel 1. All three dwellings were evaluated with their architecture and finds, and "Dwelling I" was discussed in detail since it constitutes the main subject of this thesis. The archaeological finds recovered during the excavations in Dwelling I indicate that the building was constructed in the 1st century BC and used uninterruptedly until the end of the 7th century AD. This building, which was used for about 7 centuries, underwent radical changes.
