Evaluation of antioxidant effect of resveratrol on testicular tissue in rats which have exposed to cigarette smoke

VIII-SUMMARYEVALUATION OF ANTİOXİDANT EFFECT OF RESVERATROL ONTESTICULAR TİSSUE İN RATS WHİCH HAVE EXPOSED TO CIGARETTESMOKEThe aim of this study was to investigate the negative effects of cigarette on malereproductive system and to evaluate if resveratrol could remove this negative effects ornot.32 male Wistar Albino rat were used in this study. Adult male rats were dividedinto four grups and the experiment have done during 6 weeks. Animals in Group I wereused as control. Rats in Group II were exposed to cigarette smoke only and rats in InGroup III were received daily intraperitoneal injections of resveratrol (10 mg/kg·d)only. Animals in Group IV were both exposed to cigarette smoke daily and receivedintraperitoneal injections of resveratrol (10 mg/kg·d). At the end of the experimentalperiod the rats were sacrificied. Testes of all rats removed with standart method. To seethe previously described effects MDA, GSH and NO levels were measured on testiculartissue and tissues were investigated on the light microscope.Fallow-up of behaviour and weight of rats were no significant difference amongof all groups. Rats in group IV MDA levels were lower than rats in group II. This wasshown that resveratrol have effect on lipid peroxidation. GSH levels were significantlylower in group II than the other groups. The increase of GSH levels in group IV wereshown that resveratrol have antioxidant and free radical scavenger effects. NO levelswere no statisticly difference among all groups. The criteria of histolocigal evaluation43with light microscope was accepted as Johnsen score which shows spermatogenesis inseminiferous tubules . Only rats in group II total Johnsen score was significantly lowerthan the others.These results suggest that oxidative stres have shown on rat?s testes which wereexposed to cigarette smoke and resveratrol has preventive effects on this demage withdirect or indirect antioxidant activity.Key words: Cigarette, resveratrol, testis44
