Şihabi's Hüsnül Mahadır: Examination - text

HüsnülMahadır which belongs to CelaleddinSuyuti was translated into our language from Arabic by Şihabi. This work includes many information about the history of ancient Egypt. The work that includes the period starting from the founding of Egypt until the era of Umar bin al-Khat'tab, gives information about the wars in Egypt, cities, the buildings made by human beings, the methods people created to make use of minerals in Egypt, who built the pyramids, and Noah's Flood. The study is analyzed in six chapters. In the first chapter, Şihabi's life, art, works, the political and literary conditions of the era he lived in are tried to be given. Not so many information is given about Şihabi because we can get information about his lifeonly from his own works. The information obtained from his diwan and this work is tried to be given. In the second chapter, the text is transcribed. During the transcription, the biggest problem that is faced is the abundance of names of people and places. Many sources related to Egypt were searched in order to write the proper names correctly. In the third chapter, the text is tried to be analyzed. The work is divided into chapters with topics about religion, people, places, clans, mountains and rivers according to its subjects. Examples from couplets were given about each topic that was analyzed. In the fourth chapter, the subjects in the poetic work is tried to be transformed into prose in order to be explained better. Ayahs' and hadiths' Turkish translations which are related to subjects were given as footnotes. In the fifth chapter, sources that were used during the dictionary and study process in order to explain the couplets better were written. In the sixth chapter, two pages from the beginning, two pages from the middle and two pages from the end of the original text are added.
