Analysis of Şile Akçakese village in rural architectural context and protection recommendations

Traditional buildings are a cultural heritage not only for the builders or owners, but also for all humankind living in this land. It is important to preserve the historical environment of Turkish houses, which have existed in this land for 600 years and whose last examples remain, to keep them alive and to pass them on to future generations. Preservation of rural architecture, which is one of the most beautiful examples of traditional Turkish houses, is one of the important problems for many countries of the world today. For this reason, I felt that a thesis study should be done in Akçakese village, which is one of the oldest rural settlements in Şile and has many traditional buildings. In this thesis study, the geographical location, transportation and population characteristics, social, cultural, historical features and residential structures of Şile and Akçakese are researched. And then, the area where historical buildings are predominant in Akçakese was determined as the study area and detailed examinations were made on 113 buildings. Under the title of settlement texture analysis in the study area; Street analysis, registration status analysis, robustness analysis, function analysis and floor number analysis studies were conducted. Detailed study was started for each building with the data obtained, the parcel usage of historical buildings, plan features, facade features, construction techniques and materials used were examined. Especially the causes of the deterioration in recent years have been examined and protection recommendations have been presented. Finally, evaluations were made in the results section. In addition, inventory slips were prepared and added to the appendices section for a total of 78 registered buildings that could be proposed for registration during the registration status analysis. I think that this study will make an important contribution to the inventory on the documentation and protection of rural areas, and will be resources for future studies.
