Evaluation of the silsiletü'l-lisân Arabic teaching series for foreigners according to the common European framework of reference for languages (Cefr)

This study addresses one of the most important aspects of teaching Arabic as a foreign language: the evaluation of Arabic teaching textbooks prepared in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Textbooks used in teaching Arabic as a foreign language form the foundation of all educational activities. A teaching process that is not built on a solid foundation cannot yield the expected results. Therefore, experts specializing in teaching Arabic as a foreign language must make every effort to develop a comprehensive and accurate curriculum. In addition, it is crucial to benefit from the experiences and methods gained from teaching other languages as foreign languages and to apply this knowledge to Arabic teaching. This research briefly discusses the international frameworks and standards in the field of second and foreign language teaching, focusing particularly on the benefits of the CEFR and its potential contributions to improving the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language. To concrete the practical benefits of the CEFR, the study evaluates Silsiletü'l-Lisân the first series of Arabic textbooks prepared in accordance with CEFR standards. This evaluation aims to highlight the impact of CEFR standards on creating high-quality Arabic teaching materials. The findings of the research indicate that teaching materials prepared based on the CEFR align with the generally accepted principles of good material design in Arabic teaching. Furthermore, such textbooks possess a clear advantage over others. In this context, the study suggests that utilizing CEFR standards in the preparation of curricula for teaching Arabic as a foreign language will contribute to the overall development of the field. Implementing CEFR standards will not only enhance the quality of teaching materials but also strengthen the fundamental role of textbooks in the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language.
