Abstract (EN)

The subject that is planned to be examined in this thesis is to trace whether the creation of the sense of touch in cinema works can be used as a cinematic language tool. While experiencing the bodily experience and creating a sense of touch in cinema works is a result of the audience's experience of cinema, the question arises whether the creation of the feeling of touch in cinema can be used consciously by the filmmaker to create a certain meaning. In this study, an examination will be made on how this feeling is created in movies, and the question of whether a method can be created for the creation of this genre, which we can call tactile cinema, will be examined. Due to the limited number of studies on tactility on cinema, different fields related to the subject have also been used. Laura Marks, who introduced the concept of "haptic visual" in cinema, and Merleau Ponty's concept of "embodiment" to make sense of films with phenomenology, and Juhani Pallasmaa's studies on the concept of spatial existence were used. The study traced how the senses function and the creation of the sense of touch, starting from other arts to cinema, and interpreted this with examples of films within these fields, by considering different fields and genres of cinema. Keywords: Tactile Cinema, Senses, Mise-en-scène, Cinematography, Embodiment.
