In this thesis study, a study related with the implementation of a user interface which automatically detects four open-string, G major arpeggio, and G major scale notes of the violin from the recorded violin sounds is presented for the purpose of using in the beginner level violin education. First, in order to be able to analyze the violin sound recordings, it is necessary for the music piece to be segmented into the notes forming the music piece itself. In order for the segmentation to be done correctly, it is necessary to correctly determine the starting times (onsets) of the notes. Because of its envelope characteristic, the note onset detection of violin sound is more difficult than other musical instrument sounds such as piano and guitar. In the proposed study, the complex spectral difference method is used to determine the note onset. Then, by applying the fast Fourier transform to the dedected segment, the fundamental frequency of the segment is found so that the note and octave of the violin sound are determined. Moreover, duration and volume analyzes can also be performed on the developed interface. The proposed interface system was applied to the open-string, G major arpeggio, and G major scale tracks which were obtained from eight people by using the iPad-based professional recording system. The results show that the proposed interface system works successfully.
