Abstract (EN)

The use of SSRIs is thought to have a negative effect on implant osseointegration. SSRIs are the most commonly used antidepressants worldwide. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of eight weeks of systemic SSRI administration on bone healing around titanium dental implants in rabbit models with dental implants. Eight, 6-12 months old, MALE, New Zealand rabbits were used in the study. Rabbits were divided into two groups as Control and SSRI groups. Titanium implants were placed in the bilateral tibia bones of each rabbit. During the eight-week osseointegration period, a forward dose of 5 mg/kg LUSTRAL was given to the SSRI group by oral gavage. All animals were sacrificed eight weeks after implantation and the tibia bones were resected. Histomorphometric analysis, immunohistochemical analysis and resonance frequency analysis were performed on the removed tibia and implant samples. Histomorphological, resonance frequency and histological analyzes showed that the osseintegration between the Control and Experimental groups was not significantly different. The results obtained in this study show that the use of systemic SSRI does not make any difference in terms of osseointegration of titanium implants placed in the bone.
