The relationship between diastolic functions and coenzyme q10 in the presence of coronary artery disease with preserved systolic functions

Abstract (EN)

AimsCoenzyme Q10 plays a key role in mitochondrial oxidative phophorilation which is themain source of ATP for high energy requirement tissues such as myocardial tissue. It isknown that diastolic function of the heart is a process which requires high energy, and that thechanges in cells energy metabolism is lead to dystolic disfunction and inappropriate cardiacremodelling. In our study, we aimed to investigate the relationship beetwen DiastolicDisfunction in Coronary Artery Disaese with preserved systolic functions and CoenzymeQ10.Methods and ResultsA total of 64 patients were included into the study: 22(34.4%) female and 42(65.6%)male. Mean age was 57,5±13,1. while 21(32,8%). Patients had Significant CAD(-), 43(67,2%)patients had Significant CAD(+). When plasma Coenzyme Q10 levels were compared interms of groups, plasma Coenzyme Q10 level was found to be lower in statistical significancein the group of Significant CAD(+). Plazma Coenzyme Q10 level was found to be statisticallyhigh in the group of the Mitral annulus E'/A'<1. Fourty-three patients with SignificantCAD(+) were divided into two groups according to the presence of DD. In both groups,clinical and laboratory findings as well as echocardiographic characteristics were similarwhen plasma Coenzyme Q10 levels were compared in terms of groups, plasma CoenzymeQ10 levels which were similar in previous findings were determined to be higher in the groupof DD, but it did not reach statistical significance. In patients with Significant CAD(-), similarresults were obtained in the presence of the DD.ConclusionsIn the presence of DD, an increase was determined in plasma Coenzyme Q10 levels inall patients. This increase reached statical significance only in the group of the Mitral annulusE'/A'<1. Also, coenzyme Q10 plasma level was found to be high in patients with DD in thepresence of CAD. It did not reach statistical significance. In the presence of the CAD withpreserved systolic functions which are not accompanied by inappropiate cardiac remodelling,Coenzyme Q10 deficiency was thought not to be play a primary role in the development ofDD.Key Words; Coenzyme Q10, Coronary Artery Disease, Diastolic Disfunction
