Compulsion of preseruing the urban historic sites outside the conservation areas: Afyon Mısrı mosque surrounding

The subject of the thesis is the compulsion of conserving urban historic sites left a side from the conservation areas. Misri Mosque and the surrounding urban area that is at the vicinity of the Afyon conservation area is chosen as the case-study. Housing pattern within the area is examined evaluated and conservation and rehabilitation proposals are developed. The thesis consists of six chapters. The aim, context and method in data collecting and land use specification processes are given in the introduction chapter. Second chapter is reserved for information on physical, social, economical and architectural characteristics of Afyon and the case-study area. In the third chapter, architectural features and transformations of the historic buildings, the economic life and comfort conditions in the area are analysed. In the fourth chapter, a general evaluation based on these analysis are prepared and provisions related to preservation and development of the area are determined in the fifth chapter. Intervention decisions and a plan proposal are also included in this chapter. The last chapter consist of results which are obtained by mentioned studies.Key Words : Afyon, Conservation, Restoration
