The effects of night eating, emotional eating, restrictive eating, external eating and demographic characteristics of adult patients who undergo sleeve gastrectomy after 3 years.

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of demographic characteristics such as age, gender, comorbidities before and after surgery, the time elapsed after surgery, emotional, restrictive, extrinsic and night eating conditions on postoperative body weight regain in adults who had undergone sleeve gastrectomy. Research was performed with 337 adult individuals who had surgery in Prof. Dr. Koray Tekin Obesity and Metabolic Surgery clinic, at least 3 years after the operation. In the study, the Night Eating Questionnaire and Dutch Eating Scale were applied to the participants. All the data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed with the SPSS 25.0 statistical program. There are demographic characteristics that affect body weight regain after sleeve gastrectomy. It was observed that body weight regain was statistically higher in single and younger individuals, who had a longer time since the surgery (p<0.05). No statistically significant correlation was observed between people's body weight regain and presence of comorbidities before or after surgery, night eating, emotional eating, restrictive eating, and external eating behavior (p>0.05). However, there is a need for multicenter, long-term studies with more participants to better understand the factors affecting postoperative body weight regain, and it is clear that the success of the surgery depends not only on the intervention but also on close dietitian follow-up and education of the next process.
