Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this survey is to determine the views of 1st , 2nd and 3rd grade elementary school teachers working in 38 different elementary schools located within the center of Aydin on the importance of the outcomes of music course curriculum regarding its appropriateness, and the proficiency of the interviewed teachers in the realization of the curriculum.This survey utilizes different variables in accordance with learning areas in order to evaluate elementary school music course curriculum (2006) outcomes from the point of its importance for the class, its appropriateness, and the proficiency of the teacher in its realization.This research has been conducted by using qualitative and quantitative methods and it is a descriptive survey model. Target population of the study consists of 1st grade (N=114), 2nd grade (N=107) and 3rd grade (N=103) elementary school teachers in 38 Elementary Schools in the center of Aydın in the 2010-2011 academic year. In order to determine the views of 1st , 2nd and 3rd grade elementary school teachers on the outcomes of music course curriculum regarding its appropriateness, and the proficiency of the interviewed teachers in the realization of the curriculum, questionnaires were prepared to obtain qualitative data whereas interview forms were arranged to obtain quantitative data.According to the survey 1st, 2nd and 3rd class elementary school teachers contended that their academic proficiency obtained through the study of music course curriculum played an important role in class teaching and was sufficient for the class vlevel. In accordance with the applicability of the outcomes of the curriculum, teachers teaching to 1st grade students have been found proficient, and the 2nd grade classroom teachers have been assessed as moderately proficient, while the 3rd grade teachers have been found poorly proficient.In addition to what has been said above, the facts that the teachers find themselves poorly proficient in the acquisition of the contemporary teaching methods; they do not make an effort to improve their knowledge on music or instrument proficiency; they use the existent syllabus rather than preparing it themselves; and the teacher proficiency appears as the very reason of difficulty in the realization of the outcomes have been obtained based on the interviews made with target population.Key words: Elementary School Teacher, Primary Education Music Course Curriculum, Teacher Views
