The effect of border trade on the economy of Hakkari province

Border trade is a type of international trade between countries and neighboring states. Countries that engage in border trade aim to raise the living standards of people residing in border areas. Türkiye has also been carrying out border trade since the late 1970s in order to develop the regions located on its border lines. One of the regions where Turkey carries out border trade is the Eastern Anatolia Region. Border trade activities are practiced in many provinces in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Among these provinces, Hakkari province is also included. Hakkari province consists of a mountainous region located on the border of Iraq and Iran. A large part of the livelihood is based on agriculture and animal husbandry. In addition to the fact that the industry is underdeveloped, mining is not done sufficiently. Since Hakkari is a border province, it is an important region in terms of border trade. It has three border gates: two to Iraq and one to Iran. Border trade is extremely important for the people of the region. In this thesis study, the effect of border trade on the economy of Hakkari province was investigated. In order to investigate this effect, a survey was conducted on people living in Hakkari province, taking into account demographic information such as gender, age and education level. This survey application; Independent groups t test was used to compare two groups based on variables, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) method was used for variables with more than two groups. The categories in which there was a significant difference resulting from ANOVA were compared using the LSD multiple comparison method. It has been determined that border trade has a vital importance for the province and also creates employment.
