Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT Borderline Gestaional Diabetes And Perinatal Outcomes Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as any degree of carbonhydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Although the risks associated with GDM are well recognised, the impact on maternal and infant health outcomes is less clear for borderline gestational diabetes mellitus (BGDM) which is characterised by values of glucose tolerance intermediate between normal and gestational diabetes. In our study, we aimed to investigate postpartum and perinatal outcomes of pregnants with abnormal 50 g glucose challenge test (GCT) followed by a normal 100 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Study Design: Study is designed from 268 patient and their children who were followed between January 2009 - January 2013 in Cukurova University Faculty of Medicine Gynecology and Obstetric pregnancy outpatient clinic and whose gestational diabetes screening and births occurred in our hospital. The study group was created with 134 pregnant women who have abnormal 50g GCT followed by a normal 100g OGTT. The control group was created with 134 pregnant women who have normal 50g GCT. Multiple gestations, anomalous fetuses and patients with pregestational diabetes, chronic diseases and thrombophilia were excluded from the study. The cut off value for 50g GCT was taken ≥ 140 mg/dl and NDDG criterias were used for 100g OGTT. We evaluated obstetric and perinatal results of two groups in the study in a retrospective way. Results: Maternal age, gravidity, parity were higher in study group (p<0.05). Even this situation, the retrospective evoluation of two groups was continued. When we compared two groups for newborn weight, it was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Postpartum hospitalization and hemorrhagia were statistically significant in study group (p<0.05). Conclusion: For the follow-up the pregnant women that have borderline gestational diabetes; meeting some obstetrical problems must be considered. Keywords: Diabetes, Gestational, Outcomes, Pregnancy.
