Abstract (EN)
The research focused on the functions that streets had in the past but have lost today. With the recent invention of motor vehicles and their using in cities, human-scale and human-use-oriented approaches have been replaced by vehicle-oriented approaches. Nowadays, the aim is to transform urban spaces into places where people can live again, where they can walk and spend time actively, in short, to make cities have living streets. In the first part; The problem was defined and the purpose and scope of the research was mentioned. Additionally, it is explained how the AHP method used in the study is integrated into the subject and contributes to the model creation process. In the second part, the concepts of city, space and street, which constitute the conceptual framework, were examined. The concept of city, reasons for urbanization and urban theories obtained from the literature were discussed. The definitions of private space, semi-private space and public space that constitute urban space are mentioned. The concept of street and its historical development are discussed from time to time. Current street and urban improvement practices and approaches are mentioned. In the third section, information about the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is given. Single-criteria and multi-criteria decision-making approaches to problems are briefly mentioned, and the history of the AHP method is mentioned. The stages in problem solving with the AHP method are listed and each stage is explained separately. Calculation of the consistency of the results obtained with the AHP method is also included. In the fourth chapter, information is given about the city of Aksaray, where model suggestions will be prepared. As a result of literature research, determined for the street improvement model proposal; The concepts of accessibility, aesthetics, security, comfort, sociability and sustainability were mentioned. The applications identified from current designs and applications that will contribute to the 6 selected main criteria are grouped as 3 sub-criteria under each main criterion. 6 streets were determined from the central planning region divided into 6 sub-regions from Aksaray city. Pairwise comparison matrices were prepared to be scored with a 9-point Likert scale in accordance with the evaluation of the 6 main criteria determined for the survey and the 3 sub-criteria under each of them using the AHP method. In the survey results conducted with experts, those whose consistency rate was below 10% were not taken into consideration and the calculations were completed with the others. In the fifth section, three model suggestions, divided into simple, medium and high level, were prepared according to the priorities in the survey results. In the simple level model proposal, the main criteria with 1st and 2nd order weights, in the medium level model proposal, the main criteria with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th order weights, and in the high-level model proposal, all 6 main criteria are included in the model. In addition, simple, medium and high-level model recommendations are diversified into Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 model recommendations. At each level, 3 sub-criteria below the main criterion included in the model were gradually included in the model. In the sixth chapter, the results obtained from the study were evaluated and the possible contributions of the AHP method to the process of presenting a street improvement model proposal were mentioned. In addition, personal evaluations that the researcher thought would contribute to the subject at the end of the study were also presented as suggestions.
