Ironical subjective truth of Soren Kierkegaard's philosophy

For centuries, the concept of irony has been examined as an important tool and as a way of existence in both philosophy and literature. In this scrutiny, different meanings that it has gained and the path it has proceeded through the mysterious world and the reflections of today were addressed. Furthermore, the whole process that it has entered into from Ancient Greece to Rome and Medieval culture; from Western languages and Romanticism in Art to the theory of fiction in contemporary literature has been scrutinised. In this respect, in the first part it is indicated that irony is a concept which not only preserves but also extends its semantic world in philosophy and literature. In the second part, the essentials of Kierkegaard's philosophy and his views on irony were conveyed and the irony in his literary works was traced. In the third and last part, firstly, the issue of whether or not Kierkegaard's main thesis -irony as subjective truth- can be possible by way of ironic existence was worked through, and secondly it is showed that ironic existence or ironic attitude is the most important thing for a person who tries to improve oneself.
