Evaluation of textbooks of social studies in terms of values education

The main purpose of this study is to reveal how the value expressions in the Social Studies Course Curriculum are reflected in social studies textbooks. In this respect, 4th grade and 5th grade social studies textbooks were examined in terms of values and interviews were made about the values of 4th grade teachers and 5th grade social studies teachers in the textbooks. In this research, document analysis and interview were used among qualitative research methods. Content analysis and descriptive analysis methods were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it is determined that the textbooks are quite rich in terms of values. Although it was determined that the value expressions were included in the textbooks as a way of taking place in the text, it was determined that there was enough visual material.. In addition, it was determined that 4th grade teachers were more successful than the 5th grade social studies teachers in order to illustrate the way in which the value expressions were included. It was determined that the 5th grade social studies teachers correctly expressed their value expressions according to the 4th grade teachers. In this context, it can be said that 5 th grade social studies teachers know the curriculum better. Teachers can be provided with values education in particular, and generally with the introduction of other elements of the curriculum. Keywords: Value, Textbook, Social Studies
