The effectivess of 5th grade social studies course' subjects on constucting tyhe history consci̇ousness

In this research, definiton of social studies, the aim and the importance of the social studies education, development of sociel studies in the world and Turkey, history and historical consciousness, history in the social studies and education of historical consciosness subjects are primarily emphasized. The literature is reviewed, and various researches on related subject are examined. The main purpose of the study is to expose the effectiveness of the subjects of the fifthgraders social studies curriculum on raising historical consciousness according to the opinions of teachers. The research, which is done quantitatively and qualitatively, is in the screening model and is intended to determine the detailed situation, and is propounded by using general screening models. In this context, in order to provide feedback to the presenters, a questionnaire is prepared by using five-point and three-point likert-scale and open-ended questions in order to determine the opinions of teachers about the effectiveness of the program and the history subjects in the curriculum, and datas are collected. The sample of the study consists of 101 randomly selected social studies teachers who are assigned to the secondary schools of Antalya Provincial Directorate of National Education in 2017-2018 academic year. A part of the statistical procedures related to the data obtained were transacted in SPSS package software and the analysis studies for the questions in the fifth part of the research questionnaire were conducted by using descriptive analysis which is one of the qualitative data analysis methods. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the opinions of the participant teachers on the history subjects in the part of the fifth-graders social studies curriculum, it is found out that the relevant program is effective in raising historical consciousness on individuals, but the history subjects are inadequate, and the curriculum requires various changes and is not sufficient for the students' level. In addition, considering the differentiation of teachers according to their gender, branches and seniority, no significant difference has been found in the opinions of the participant teachers about "the effectiveness of the history subjects in the part of the fifth-graders social studies curriculum in rising historical consciousness", "the history subjects in the part of the fifth-graders social studies curriculum" and "which methods and techniques are more suitable for teaching history subjects in the social studies lesson and raising historical consciousness".
