The effect of teaching 6th grades social studies "the resources of country unit" with station technique on students' academic success and their attitude

In this study, the effect of Station Technique on students' success and attitude towards Social Studies is explored. The target population of the study consists of totally 45 6th grade students at Elazığ Central Kaya Karakaya Secondary School in 2014 – 2015 academic year. In the study, Preliminary and final test control group model of experimental design is used. Experimental group (22 people), control group (23 people) were selected randomly by the teacher of the lesson. During application process, while control group students have the lecture with the techniques in the curriculum, the experimental group students have the lecture with the "Station Technique." The students in the experimental group were divided into four identical groups of 5-6 people. Groups have worked in 24 learning stations prepared alternately for 40 minutes each week for 6 weeks with the researchers' guidance. In this study, to measure the students' success, an achievement test consisting of 25 multiple choice questions and a Likert Type attitude scale about "The Recourses of Our Country" unit were applied to the all groups as preliminary tests and final tests. At the end of the study, the students in the experimental group where the station technique was used have increased their success. This result has been interpreted as it helped increasing their achievement. When the experimental group where the station technique is used are compared with the control group where the techniques in the existing curriculum were used, there hasn't appeared a significant difference. Among the total attitude points of the groups, there isn't determined a significant difference statically. However, the experimental group's points have increased in terms of the attitude scale's benefits, want and confidence.
