Examination of attitudes of social science teacher candidates towards global citizenship and multicultural education

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes of students studying at the department of social science teacher towards global citizenship and multicultural education and to determine whether these attitudes change depending on the age, gender, type of the high school graduated, educational status of parents, jobs of parents, settlement of family, habits of reading book and newspaper. The study group of research constitutes of 192 teacher candidates who study in the 2015-2016 academic year. Global Citizenship Attitude Scale developed by Göl (2013) and Attitude Scale for Teacher Candidates towards Multicultural Education developed by Yavuz and Anıl (2010) were used as data collection tools. During the process of data analysis, Man Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests were performed beside descriptive analysis as data were not normally scattered. Global citizenship and multicultural education attitude levels of teacher candidates were seen to be over average according to the results obtained. As a result of examinations of students' global citizenship attitude levels and multicultural education attitude levels according to various factors, global citizenship attitude levels of them differ according to age and gender while it doesn't show a meaningful difference according to high school type graduated, class level, educational status of parents, jobs of parents, settlement of family, habits of reading book and newspaper. It is determined that the attitudes of teacher candidates towards multi cultural education don't show a significant difference according to all factors. Meaningful, intermediate and positive correlation is determined between teacher candidates' attitudes to multi cultural education and their attitudes to global citizenship.
