The effect of media on behavioral tendencies of secondary school students according to social studies teachers (Burdur province example)

The aim of this research is to try to determine the effect of media environment and tools on the behavioral tendencies of secondary school students according to the views of social studies teachers. The research was designed in accordance with the basic qualitative research design within the scope of the qualitative research approach. The study group of the research consists of 11 social studies teachers working in different secondary schools in Burdur in the 2020-2021 academic year. During the research process, data were collected with a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. Content analysis technique specific to the basic qualitative research design was used in the analysis of the data. Findings were supported by direct quotations. When the findings obtained as a result of the analyzes made in the research are examined, according to the views of the social studies teachers; media environment and tools affect secondary school students in many areas such as modeling, acquiring new behaviors and values, social skills, health, general mood, academic success and world of thought. In addition, in the research, findings regarding the level of awareness of the students regarding the fictional dimension of the media and whether the media environment and tools are used in the education process were also obtained.
