Abstract (EN)

The primary aim of the study is to determine the relationship between social studies teachers' views on the use of historical environment in lessons and their knowledge of the historical environment. The research was conducted during the 2023-2024 academic year. The study group consists of social studies teachers working in Trabzon province. The study, designed using a mixed-methods approach, employed both qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative data related to social studies teachers were collected using a historical sites knowledge form, while qualitative data were gathered through an interview form on the use of historical environment in social studies classes. The analysis of the quantitative data included arithmetic mean, standard deviation, skewness/kurtosis values, t-test, and one-way ANOVA analyses, while the qualitative data were analyzed using content and descriptive analysis methods. The results showed that social studies teachers' levels of knowledge about the historical environment varied according to gender and educational background, but did not show significant differences based on seniority or place of residence. It was found that teachers understood the definition of historical environment and that it includes various elements such as castles, fortresses, towers, bridges, pavilions, palaces, inns, baths, mosques, churches, complexes, lakes, geographical remnants, agricultural areas, ports, covered bazaars, and caravanserais. Teachers faced difficulties in teaching the historical environment due to limited class hours and the curriculum not adequately covering these topics. Additionally, it was found that social studies teachers frequently use problem- solving, discussion, and case study methods to incorporate historical environment into their teaching. It is recommended that social studies teachers make use of resources that can support the development of instructional strategies related to the historical environments.aha sonra doldurulacaktır.
