Suicide as a Social Phenomenon - The Case of Batman Province

Every community has its own "social suicide rate" which stable unless there happens a great social transformation or an extraordinary situation. The suicides are the events reasons of which are initally of social. There are the impulses of suicides which have penetrated into the community. The source of these is not individual but the whole society, and these are the real causes of suicides or determiners of them. According to this, the real causes of suicides are the social forces changing from community to community and from group to group and from religion to religion. These don't stem from individuals solely, but from the group. In order to be able to understand the process that carries to the suicides and the reasons of the suicide incidents that have a tendency to increase, however, there is a need for detailed and deep researches which will reveal especially the sociological dimentions of the problem with suitable techniques. The cultural, economic and social reasons prepare the suicides and psychological factors finish them. This study has been put into realization to be able to understand the process which drag the people to suicides, and the reason of the suicide attempts and trials, and the suicides cases which occured in Batman durig the period of about seven years between 1995 and 2002. Under the light of research results, the number of suicides and attempts of suicides resulting with death have increased. According to the years women make half of the suicides resulting with death and 81% of ones who attempt to commit suicide. Great number of the ones whose suicide result in death or the ones who attempt to commit suicide accumulates in the young age catagory. Most of these people are of countryside origin and the people who come from low socio-economic class. The total rate goes up to 75% with these people who are primary school graduate or lower education levels. Among the reasaons economic problems, family discordance etc. come first. Briefly from the point of sex, in females family and society pressure, in males economical problems are of great importance.
