The relationship between predisposition to ethical values and academic jealousy of students studying in sports sciences faculties

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the ethical values proneness of the students studying at the faculties of sports sciences and their academic jealousy, and to determine whether ethical values and academic jealousy make a statistically significant difference according to the variables of gender, department and grade level. The study group of the research consists of a total of 745 students studying in the faculties of sports sciences of eleven universities in eleven different cities of Turkey. The data of the research were collected through the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher, the "Susceptibility to Ethical Values Scale" developed by Kaya (2015) and the "Academic Jealousy Scale" developed by Koçak (2019). According to the results of the research, 1) when the averages of the general and sub-dimensions of ethical values are examined, it is seen that the students of the faculty of sports sciences attach importance to ethical values. Academic jealousy expressed by the "self-directedness" sub-dimension is experienced more intensely than the academic jealousy expressed by the "envy" and "maturity" sub-dimensions. 2) According to the findings of the study, it can be said that female students are more positive in terms of "predisposition to ethical values" general scale, "love" and "cooperation" than male students. In other words, the gender variable is very effective in the opinions of university students regarding their predisposition to "ethical values". 3) Considering the differences in academic jealousy and susceptibility to "ethical values" of students from different departments of Faculties of Sport Sciences, when the general score of "academic jealousy" is examined, it is seen that the students of the recreation department have a higher average score than the students of the physical education department, and only in the "self-directedness" sub-dimension, the recreation department students have a statistically higher average score than both coaching and physical education departments. On the other hand, no significant differences were observed in the general average and sub-dimensions of "ethical values" among departments. 4) Although the students do not differ significantly in the "self-direction" sub-dimension according to the grade level, there are significant differences in the sub-dimensions of "academic jealousy", "envy" and "maturity". On the other hand, the "general scale", "love", "justice" and "cooperation" sub-dimensions of the "ethical values" inclination scale of the students studying at the faculties of sports sciences show significant differences according to their grade levels. 5) A negative significant relationship was found in the general dimensions of "academic jealousy" and "predisposition to ethical values".
