Investigation of nutritional knowledge level and nutritional beliefs of sports sciences faculty students

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the level of nutritional knowledge and nutritional beliefs of students studying in faculties of sport sciences. Survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 672 undergraduate students studying at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and Süleyman Demirel University Faculties of Sport Sciences in the 2023-2024 academic year. The data of the study were collected digitally through Google Forms by using a questionnaire form including sociodemographic characteristics, attitude scale on healthy nutrition (SBITO) and sports nutritional supplements belief scale (SBTIO). SPSS 29.0 package program was used to analyze the data. The data obtained were analyzed and the results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test were examined, it was seen that the deviations of the scale scores from normality were significant, the skewness and kurtosis values were within the range of ± 1, it was decided to use parametric statistical analysis tests and t-test for 2 variables and Anova Test for 3 and more variables, and Pearson Correlation analysis was applied to reveal the relationship. As a result, a low-level positive relationship was found between nutritional knowledge levels and nutritional beliefs of sport sciences faculty students. There was a low-level positive relationship between "nutritional beliefs" and "knowledge about nutrition", a low-level negative relationship between "feelings towards nutrition" and a low-level positive relationship between "positive nutrition". No significant relationship was found between "nutritional belief" and "poor nutrition" among the sub-dimensions of " nutritional knowledge level".
