Investigation of the relation between professional anxiety that sports HIGH-school students experience in the vocational development process and their family support

This research was conducted in order to decipher the relationship between career concerns and family support experienced by students studying sports in Sports High Schools in Turkey in accordance with their opinions in professional development processes. The universe of the research is consists of students studying in sports high schools in Turkey. The research group consists of students studying sports at Elazig Kaya Karakaya Sports High School, Malatya Battal Gazi Sports High School, Şanlıurfa Sports High School, Adiyaman Sports High School, Kahramanmaraş Sports High School and Siirt Şehit Zafer Kılıç Sports High School. The research group consists of 912 randomly selected students. In order to obtain the opinions of the students, two scale forms were used. The first scale is the "Career Anxiety Scale" and consists of 14 items and 2 dimensions. Secondly, in order to determine the family support of students in choosing a profession, it is the "Family Support Scale for Choosing a Profession" and consists of 18 items and 2 dimensions. First, a normality test was conducted to determine whether the data obtained in the scales and their sub-dimensions fulfilled the assumption of normality. Then, parametric and non-parametric tests were applied to reveal the distribution of the research group according to personal variables and to evaluate the level of differentiation depending on independent variables. Again, "Pearson Correlation Analysis" was conducted to determine the level and direction of the relationship between the dependent variables. As a result of the analyses, it was seen that variables such as gender, age, monthly income of the family, class, educational status of the parents and the name of the sports high school carry career anxiety when choosing a profession for the future and that families affect students when choosing a profession. It has been observed that women are more anxious when choosing a profession than men. In terms of family support in choosing a profession, it has been seen that women are at the forefront of the profession compared to men and they need family support more.It has been determined that as the age gets older, the future anxiety becomes more prominent. In particular, it is seen that students with low monthly family income need family support who have more career anxiety when choosing a profession. It has been determined that parents have a high educational status, students feel less career anxiety when choosing a profession, setting goals, and receive better family support. It has been obtained that there is a negative and very low level of relationship between the "Career Anxiety Scale" and the "Family Support Scale for Career Choice". It was determined that the strongest relationship among these scales was low (r= -.477; p<.000) between "Career Anxiety Scale" and "Family Support Scale in Choosing a Profession". As a result, the concerns of students in sports high school sports and occupational choice in career to support the family in order to have information about how high school sports career in school counseling and guidance services. All students can be guided in detail about choosing a profession, especially at the beginning of high school education, on certain days and times under the name of professions and career concerns in the school curriculum.
