The effect of sportsmen's emotional intelligence level on their communication ski̇lls level

The purpose of this study is to examine emotional intelligence and the level of communication skills of the athletes in team sports such as football, basketball, volleyball and handball. Sample of the study constitutes 419 athletes who play basketball, handball and volleyball in the second and third leagues in various regions of Turkey. In order to obtain data from participants, Communication Skills Assessment in a data collection tool (CSA) (Korkut, 1996) and Emotional Intelligence Inventory in sports (Adiloğul and manners, 2015) have been used. Besides, a Personal Information Form has been used to collect data about the participants' age, gender, education level and marital status. To analyze the data obtained, SPSS 22 software package program has been used. In the analysis of the obtained data, descriptive statistical analysis has been used. In the groups of two, t-test and for the comparison of more than two groups, one-way ANOVA test have been used. The significance level has been determined as p <0.05. When there search findings are examined, in terms of gender, it's been found that communication skills level of the athletes has statistically differentiated at a significant level. Emotional intelligence level of the athletes , in terms of their gender, has been investigated. In the sub-dimension of emotional intelligence level, in the assessment the feelings of others and in the assessment of their own feelings, a significant difference has been observed. But, from the social skills and the use of feelings sub-dimensions point of view, a significant difference has been observed statistically. The results of the study have demonstrated that the gender has caused a statistical difference in terms of communication level and emotional intelligence. But the variables such as marital status, level of sportsman ship and the level of income haven't caused a statistical difference.
