Sports joint stock companies

Sport is essentially a game played for fun. With the transition of people to settled life, many types of sports have emerged in various parts of the world. Driven by the cross-cultural interaction between societies and the technological advances in particular, some of these sports have attracted global attention. Organization in sports has developed mostly thanks to team sports. Individuals have come together to establish sports clubs, clubs have come together to establish national sports federations, and national sports federations have come together to establish authorized international sports organizations around the world. Thus, sports has become a global organization with its own unique legal rules and regulations. The popularization of sports and its adoption by the masses have made its commercialization inevitable. Sports clubs, which were previously organized as associations, have begun to incorporate so as to manage their growing economies more efficiently. The lack of legal basis for incorporation in sports in Turkish law has brought a new act study on this issue to the agenda. In this direction, Sports Clubs and Sports Federations Act numbered 7405 entered in force on 26.04.2022. Considering the situation in practice, incorporation in sports has been limited to joint-stock companies in the Act. The unique structure of sports has ensured that sports law is largely independent of the states, which has caused sports joint-stock companies to have different characteristics from classical joint-stock companies. In this study, sports joint-stock companies were analyzed from the perspectives of national and international organization in sports.
