Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in order to determining chromosome number and morphology of Squalius anatolicus (Bogutskaya, 1997) (Pisces, Cyprinidae) belonging to Cyprinidae family in Lake Beyşehir. In cytogenetic analysis, the ?Air Drying? technique of Collares-Pereira (1992) was used for determining the karyotype. However, for determination of constitutive heterochromatin regions the C-banding technique of Sumner (1972) and for nucleolus organizer regions (NOR) determining the ?a 1-step? technique of Howell and Black (1980) were used. The diploid chromosome complement was 2n=50, consisting of 5 pairs of metacentric, 11 pairs of submetacentric, 5 pairs of subtelocentric, 4 pairs of acrocentric and the number of arms (NF) 82. Sex chromosome differentiation was undetermined. C-bands were detected in the centromer regions of many chromosomes. NOR was observed on the short arms of one pairs of big sized submetacentric chromosomes. The results show that heteromorphism in the size of NORs among the homologous chromosomes. These findings are expected to provide contribution to fish cytogenetic and phylogeny.Key Words: Squalius anatolicus, chromosome, karyotype, nucleolus organizer region (NOR), constitutive heterochromatin
