Such types of slips are generally made up of slips including sufficient flux with a relatively lower melting point. When fired between 1020oC - 1350oC, these slips tend to melt and product surface is covered by a dark slip layer.Slip types used in slip glaze can be chosen in terms of desired color and pattern features. These slip types may well be ironed - slips with a lower melting point and also ironed-slips with higher a melting-point. For producing slip glaze by using slips having a higher-melting point, the flux rate of mixture should be increased. Feldspat, Nefelin Siyenit, Boraks and Frit can be used for this process.We should be able to make a distinction between slip glaze and modern sinter (consolidated) slips. Sinter slips are prepared by adding slip with lower melting point into normal slip raw materials. Such slips have a very lower shrinking rate because of the lower amount of slip inside them. In addition, they form a dark and opaque layer at surface of product.In previous applications; Antique Sinter slip, also known as Terra Sgilatta Slip, was generally made up of illitic-structured slips, and therefore it appears a bit like shiny or luesterian after firing process just because of its tiny - grained structure.The slip glaze in China and Japan always has a very narrow color scale including brown and black. The Chinese potteries have various slip features. These features include slip with golden striped (rabbithide), silver mottled slip like grape bunch (oil spot) and tea - dust slip.The Tenmoku slip which turns to dark purple when applied intensively may also turn to brown in thinner parts of product. In addition, this slip may form stripes like rabbit hide when heated enough to melt and also may form ?oil drops? when freezed slowly. In case of the slip including higher amounts of Iron Oxide, there may appear crystal mottles on the surface of product; this is called as oil - spot. In brown-black surface of slip many of shiny and silver spots appear.In samples of slip glaze in Northern America, the Albany slips are more common. In newspapers of 1800s, Albany slips were introduced as substitute of toxic lead - covered slips used in production of functional potteries of that time. This kind of slips were also used in manufacturing of electrical insulators and Stoneware potteries. This multi - functional slip has been used more than 90 years in drainage tubes.Albany slip is alluvium sediment formed by glacier movements near Albany / Hudson River in New York. In slips heated above 1260oC, it turns to dark brown - black from pale yellow - green during reduction. This slip has a very high temperature - scope.Another kind of slip is known as the Barnard / Blackbird slip. This kind of slip, which consists higher amounts of iron and has a lower temperature was first extracted during Revolution War. The deposit of this slip is placed in a forest area near Harrisburg city, in middle Pennysylvannia. Barnard slip is used in brick and cement industry. It is also used, by its higher content of manganese, as an intermediate component in foundry of iron. It starts melting at 1200oC.Alberta slip glaze; This substance is developed in order to be used for a substitute for Albany slip both physically and chemically in New York. Just like the Albany slip, it also melts at a lower temperature and consists of iron. Alberta slip is viscous than Albany slip because of its content of a lot of substances. It may be used at a % 100 for creating a brown color at 1300oC.Slip glaze prepared with Redearth; Redearth consists of three lower - temperatured slips extracted form south Alberta, Saskatchewan and Montana. This brown slip has tiny granules and it is crystalized above 1120oC.Redart; It is a lower temperatured slip consisting higher amounts of iron. It is generally used in Terracotta slip bodies. It is liquid in high temperatures and may be used in recines of slip glaze.Ravenscrag slip; This slip is very different from any other slip types. It naturally consists of feldspat, silis and slip and therefore at 1300oC it turns to shiny. In addition, it may be used for producing any kind of slip at % 100.Furthermore, the slip glaze in Finland has a narrow scope of firing.
