Abstract (EN)

Human beings, who were sent to the world for a certain period of time to serve Allah, were created from different genders, male and female. Each gender has its own features and responsibilities according to these characteristics. Islam has given men and women responsibilities in accordance with their nature and, rights in return for these responsibilities. The changing world perception with the Industrial Revolution led to the emergence of different ideas in every field. The resulting thoughts and movements have also influenced the states that did not experience the industrial revolution. In the Ottoman Empire, in 1908, with the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, there was an increase in the number of media organs, and writers with different world views had the opportunity to convey their thoughts on various issues to the public through the press. The Journal of Sırât-ı Müstakîm was published one day after the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy and was composed mostly of writers with Islamic thought. There are articles on religious, philosophical, political and social issues in the journal, which discusses what can be done to get rid of the economic and social problems affecting the society and the state. One of the topics discussed in the period is women and women's rights. Issues such as women's work, education, hijab, and their position in social life according to Islam have been brought to the agenda and interpreted by different authors. In this study, it has been determined what issues were discussed about the social life of women at the beginning of the 20th century in Sırat-ı Müstakim Magazine. It was discussed how the issues related to women's education, work, hijab and participation in social-cultural life were evaluated at that time. The issues regarding women's social life, which were addressed within the conditions of the period, were examined in terms of their conformity with the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, and references were made to our classical fiqh literature. It has been revealed on this occasion whether there is a difference between the issues discussed today regarding women's social life and the issues of a century ago.
