Evaluation of clinical and dermographic characteristics of children with status epilepticus monitored in PICU Introduction and aim: The aim of this study is evaluation of clinical and dermographic characteristics of children with status epilepticus. We determined patients with status epilepticus according to their age groups, genders, residencies, underlying ethiologies, using drugs and other clinical features. Materials and methods: In this study, the files of 38 children in Pediatric İntensive Care Unit of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine between the years of 2010-2015, age range of 0-18 years, diagnosed with status epilepticus, were retrospectively investigated regardless of the their gender difference. The patients with deficient records and laboratory tests were excluded from the study. The age, gender, residency, duration of admission to hospital, ethiology, clinical symptoms and laboratory test results were evaluated. Results: The 42.1% of patients were male and 57.9% female, 65.8% lived in the city center and 34.2% lived in rural. Their ages were determined as minimum 1,5 months and maximum 191 months and their mean age was detected as 38,5±45,2 months. The range of their weights were between minimum 3,5 kg and maximum 42 kg and mean of weight were 13,3±8 kg. The 68,5% of the patients were discharged succesfully from the intensive care unit, but 31,5% of the patients were dead. Conclusion: The prompt diagnosis, ethiology, carefully evaluation, early treatment and follow-up in the intensive care unit are the most important factors effecting morbidity and mortality rates of patients with status epilepticus.
