Viewpoint of Sufis towards non-muslims

It is undoubted that it is necessary to clarify the issues such as the way of religions' perception each other and the position of the other in this age where the members of different faiths are in the same environments and the relations are intensified. While we can find a lot of research in the field of Islamic Law, especially regarding Islamic religion's view to other religions, we cannot say that we have the same opportunities regarding the view of sufis towords other religions. In addition, in this field, where there is no comprehensive academic study, this research is important in terms of contributing to reveal the perspective of Sufism to non-Muslims. During our research, it was seen that attempts by Muslims to establish a profound dialog with the non-Muslims were based on the rich foundations established by Sufi dervishes such as Ibn Arabi, Yunus Emre and Mawlana Jalal al-Din Rumi. Therefore, the general opinion regarding "the view of the Sufis towards the non-Muslims" was the aim in this study by taking the central thoughts of those who could be called the three great Sufis of Anatolia. From the standpoint of designating the grounds on which the Sufis stood, the first chapter tried to primarily determine the status of the non-Muslims according to the two main sources of the Islamic religion, the Qur'an and Sunnah and, the status of non-Muslims under Islamic law and their relationship with the polemic refutation tradition framework. In the second chapter however, an effort was made to examine in principle the Sufis approach style towards members of other religions and its underlying causes. In this context, we tried to establish the basis of the approach of the Sufis towards non-Muslims based on the Sufis sense of existence, their perception of religion and their view of humans. The ability of various beliefs to live together in harmony in this era where the efforts of othering is dominant is dependent on the domination of the codes of thought and culture of Sufi figures such as Ibn Arabi, Mawlana and Yunus Emre which will contribute to peace and tranquility. These codes should be sought in the value that they placed on their perception of God and humans, not in skin but in the heart and soul; and not in zâhir but in bâtin.
