Abstract (EN)

Süleyman Nesib, who was born in 1666 in istanbul, lived by contributing significantly to Turkish art and thought accumulation and productivity up untill 1 91 7 when he died. Sources which provide information about this literary personality are no more than replication of each other and not far from being superficial information providers. The relative imbalance between the actual place of Süleyman Nesib in Turkish art and thought sphere and coverage given to him directed us to choose this thesis. The main reason to choose this title is to provide a detailed account of his life and literary personality and poems. Our main source in this study is the book titled "Süleyman Paşazade Sami Bey, Külliyat-ı Asar ve Ihtisasat, Evkaf-ı Islamiye Puplication, İstanbul 1336-1334- 1917", Süleyman Nesib's poems, articles and letters are puplished in this book in an orderly fashion; news emerged in newspapers following his death and memorial writtings of his friends are also included in the above named book. This study starts with transcribing Süleyman Nesib's poems to the new Turkish alphabet. With regard to thematic intensity and subject identification, the thesis focuses on linguistic-style and formative feature analysis in order to treat this poems in a technical and integrative fashion. Reflections of the era in which Süleyman Nesib lived and contemporaray commentary of the Turkish art and thought world of that age is also included in our study. We have aimed to freat this topic more scientifically and satisfactorily by referring the new Turkish Literature Scientific Branch's main sources and the Servet-i Funun era products, the period in which Süleyman Nesib produced his writings. Although during his years at the school of Administration (Mülkiye Mektebi) he was greatly influenced by Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem, who made him interested in the new style literature, Süleyman Nesib's classical poetry experiments of the young ages reflect the characteristics of the old literature. The-main turning point which matches his literary life is the date of 1896, though Süleyman Nesib's first published poem carries the date of 1893. At this date Süleyman Nesib joined the Servet-i Funun school of thought and his professional literary life was began. In his poems writen at this period, one might observe Tevfik Fikret's influence and these poems are written in a disciplinary fashion and with the known understanding of the Servet-i Funun school of thought. Süleyman Nesib, who first wrote Sone style poems in the Turkish literature, benefited largely from French literature and with his in depth knowledge of Arabic and Persian literature and language, he naturally blended these cultural resources with 2000 years old preserved Turkish literature and thus enriched and re-shaped his writings. In paraleli to his writings on ethics, orthography, style and commentary, another area in which he seem to be fairly influential was the education. This distinguished name in the Turkish intellectual life was also the translator of the first book on Turkish Education History. With a nature of dislike towards the fame, Süleyman Nesib deliberatly choosed to be far from his real value and place. Our thesis however, aimed to amend this historical mistake, and to highlight this highly intellectual writer's line in the Turkish art and thought sphere.
