Analysis of Suleymaniye Library Fazıl Ahmet Paşa Mushaf number 8 in terms of illumination art

The Holy Qur'an is a source of spiritual guidance in the Islamic world and has been carefully preserved for centuries and has survived unchanged until today. Artists display all their mastery while illuminating the Mushafs in order to show the value they attach to the holy book in the best way. The art of illumination has an important place in terms of book arts. The art in Islamic civilization started with the decoration of the Holy Qur'an. Different styles and techniques were developed in book arts in different times and societies. The Safavid period was also a period in which works that left their mark on the history of illumination were produced. In our research, a Mushaf in the Süleymaniye Library, which contains valuable manuscripts, was analyzed. The Qur'an number 00008 in the collection of Fazıl Ahmet Pasha, who has an important place in history, was chosen because of the remarkably beautiful details in its decorative elements. Although the date of preparation of the Mushaf, its calligrapher and musahhist are not known, it was thought to belong to the Safavid period during the examinations. For this reason, the thesis briefly covers the history, culture and art of the Safavid period and the manuscripts prepared in the style of Shiraz. The analyzed work consists of a double-page zahriye and serlevha page, surabah heads, prayer page, tefe'ulname page and mushaf roses.
